How to Specify a Shower Set: Components, Fit and Quote Checklist

Two shower sets can look similar while containing different valves, outlets and mounting parts. Begin with a bill of materials and an installation drawing so that price comparisons describe the same complete assembly.

List exactly what the set includes

Specify the mixer or valve, trim, overhead shower, hand shower, hose, holder or rail, diverter and fixing hardware. Confirm whether a concealed valve body is included. Decorative trim alone is not a complete concealed shower installation.

Match the assembly to the available space

For a renovation, record the existing connection positions and wall construction. Check the required installation depth and future service access. Choose a hose length and rail arrangement that suit the users and enclosure without relying on a single suggested height for every bathroom.

Clarify how the outlets operate

Ask which outlets can run together and what supply conditions the quoted configuration requires. Record the manufacturer’s operating range, connection specification and control instructions. A larger showerhead, more spray modes or a thermostatic label does not by itself confirm suitability for the available water supply.

Compare finishes and materials component by component

Identify the materials of the mixer body, handle, handset, hose and rail separately. Agree the finish reference and inspect a sample under consistent lighting. Ask for model-specific evidence where a performance or market requirement forms part of the specification.

Use this quotation checklist

  • Complete model numbers and included components.
  • Dimensioned drawing, connection details and installation requirements.
  • Control type, outlet combinations and documented operating conditions.
  • Finish reference, quantity and packaging requirements.
  • Required product documentation for the destination market.
  • Service access, replacement cartridge and hose references.
  • Items specifically excluded from the quoted set.

Approve a complete sample

Check the assembled set against the bill of materials, not only a photograph of the front face. Record missing parts, installation conflicts and operational observations before confirming a bulk specification. Keep the approved drawing and sample reference with the order so that later questions can be resolved against the same configuration.
